Tom Weiss; Class of 1989

Tom Weiss earned four varsity letters for cross country and four year varsity for track between 1985 and 1989. He was a three time Conference Champion, a three time Regional Champion and a three time All-State Contender who finished in 2nd place in two out of three state champions in which he ran. Tom won 22 straight dual meets during his time at East Lansing High School and set course records as a sophomore, junior and senior including his best course time of 15:36.
At Lansing Community College, Tom Weiss quickly became a steady figure for the LCC Men’s Cross Country Team, who continued to dominate the junior college course just has he had at East Lansing. After his freshman year at LCC, Tom received the individual honors of Most Valuable runner, All-Region, All-State, All-Conference and on April 1, 1991, he received an All-American honor from the National Junior College Athletic Association after coming in 21st at the NAIA National Cross Country Championship.
After two years at LCC, Tom took his cross country shoes over to Siena Heights College, where he was named an Athletic All-American in 1992. Tom obtained a District and League Champion in 1992 and made the All-District team, setting a meet course record in the latter (24:44). As a two year runner for Siena Heights College, Tom was name to the All-Michigan team. He was a national qualifier both years he attended Siena Heights and he received an Honorable Mention All-American award for the mile in Track in 1993.
Tom is survived by his wife; Cindy, son; Tommy, father; Clarence Weiss, Mother; Nancy Lucas, and Grandmother; Beatrice Shram.
