Lori (Schlissberg) Fauver; Class of 1992

Picture
With gymnastics as her first love, Lori did not start playing golf seriously until a knee injury at age 11 forced her to focus her competitive spirit elsewhere.  Inspired by parents Marty and Jan, Lori joined her brothers Hank (ELHS 1989) and Robbie (ELHS 1994) on the links.

Good thing for the East Lansing High School Girls Golf Program.

A four-year starter for the Trojans, Lori steadily improved while playing for Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association Hall of Famer Evonne Picard, with the hallmark of her game throughout her career always being a stellar short game and strong mental toughness.

Lori tied or broke East Lansing’s nine-hole scoring record three times, doing so first as a freshman shooting 38 at Chisholm Hills Golf Course. She was named first-team All-Conference and All-Area four times and earned Honorable Mention All-State as a freshman before beginning a run of three straight seasons as part of the “Super Team” – the top eight players in Michigan.

As a junior, Lori was named “Miss Golf” as the top player in the state, repeating as winner in her senior season. She became only the second player ever to win the award twice, following Mount Pleasant’s Kelly Robbins – a 10-time winner on the LPGA tour who won in 1986 and 1987. It’s a feat that still only six girls golfers can claim to this day.

Lori’s steady improvement as an individual player mirrored the progression of the Trojans over her four years. The team qualified for the state tournament in each of Lori’s seasons, finishing 7th in 1989, 3rd in 1990 and 1991, and finally breaking through with a state title in 1992.

Lori led the way with a brilliant 73 at Forest Akers East Golf Course to earn medallist honors by an incredible six shots. She was as steady as ever in her final high school round, carding only three bogies offset by two birdies on her way to the individual title.

Lori finished her senior season with a school record 39.7 nine-hole match average.

Lori went on to become a four-year letter winner at Michigan State, playing for Michigan Golf Hall of Famer Mary Fossum. She graduated in 1996 with a degree in Audiology and Speech Sciences, then went on to earn a Master Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 1998 from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.

Personal: Lori lives in Hudson, Ohio with her husband Andy and their three children, Annabel (8), Sam (6) and Ben (4). Golf has become a family pastime for the next generation as the Fauver kids enjoy weekly golf outings with Lori’s dad Marty.
